Quilting Personal Appearances

A quilter by craft, Lisa is a teacher by nature. During her highly informative and educating quilting personal appearances, she is particularly generous with the lessons she has learned the hard way. An entertaining speaker, she’s thrilled to share the tricks she has devised to avoid making the same mistakes again.

                                                 Length: 1 hour                           Cost: $300

Lisa shows actual quilts, and uses technology to enhance the presentation. Everyone attending gets a freebie from Quilter’s Thread. Event organizer will be asked to pay hotel/airfare/mileage rates where applicable.

Tales of the Quilter’s Thread Quilts
Every quilt has a story. This one-hour talk tells the stories of many of the Quilter’s Thread Quilts. It focuses on:

  • The original design process and revisions
  • Color choices
  • Construction techniques
  • How to make it your own
  • The moral of each story (i.e. lessons learned)

No More Professor Nice Quilter
We’ve all been through it, either made a quilt that didn’t turn out as hoped, or gave a quilt that wasn’t received as hoped. In this talk Lisa outlines a proven plan for designing the quilt you want and having it appreciated. She focuses on:

  • Knowing yourself and your quilting skill set
  • Tools and techniques for good decision-making
  • Reading between the pattern lines
  • Really “knowing” the person who is receiving a quilt
  • Some “just in case” advice

BYOC- Bring Your Own Color, (Wine is optional)
Heard at a Quilter’s Thread Retreat: “Well, it’s finished. Now, if you give me a glass of wine, I’ll tell you if I like it.” Lisa’s BYOC patterns for Quilter’s Thread take the guesswork out of fabric choice and placement. Using value instead of colored fabrics, these patterns show you exactly what the pattern will look like with whatever fabric placement you choose. In this talk, Lisa covers:

  • Fabric placement gone awry
  • The fallacy of “either you’re good at color or you’re not”
  • No long, only the short of color and value
  • Organizing your fabric by value
  • How to use BYOC techniques to read any pattern
