How Much Should we Spend on Quilting Fabric?

April 3, 2018 By Lisa Berentsen

I remember when we used to sew to save money.

In the beginning, there were flour bags, old clothing and scraps from new clothes. These made up the quilting fabric. Remember the labyrinthine crazy quilts of the Victorian era, and the flour sack quilts that started popping up in the 1920’s? Frugal has been part of quilt making since the beginning, but, with the cost of fabric today, can we be frugal quilters? Importantly, should we be frugal quilters?…

Have a beautiful (quilted) Easter!

March 30, 2018 By Lisa Berentsen

Easter has become much more hectic as my family has grown. I had no problems when I was the Mom, but as Grandma, I’m not as efficient. My efforts were adequate when I had three grandchildren, but with almost seven, I’m struggling to keep up.

There’s still time for quilted Easter gifts

Here’s my plan…the newbies get a quilted Easter basket, the pattern is available in the Quilter’s Thread Store. We’re not completely built, so, for a short time, you can get it for free. The pattern gives the estimated time to complete as 1 1/2 to 2 hours, but I’ve made them in an hour, and three in two hours….

Welcome to the new Quilter’s Thread

March 8, 2018 By Lisa Berentsen

The reno is nearly done.

We’re moving in to our new digs! How do you like the new Quilter’s Thread?

Quilter’s Thread isn’t just redesigned, it is refocused. Our design is intended to communicate a simplified mission and a renewed commitment to the tradition of quilting.

That mission is to use technology to connect quilters. The tradition is generous sharing. I love how quilters share what they know and what they make.

Our QT users overwhelmingly sign on via the web, so we have stopped supporting the app and are focusing on the web. Overwhelmingly, our quilters spend their time in the gallery and on tips and tricks, so we are making viewing those channels easier by incorporating them into our Instagram feed.

Simplified delivery

Simplifying our delivery allows us to focus on our content. We will speak through the blogs- with lots of video ahead, and we will show through Instagram. Our patterns and resources will be housed in a store instead of a library- some free, some for sale.

Our email plan is monthly. Please sign up to get a free pattern. Our news will come monthly with a free block pattern included in each.  Also, please follow us on Instagram. Our photo library is there, as well as our snippets of inspiration and instruction.

As always, please let us know what you think and what you need. That’s what we’re here for.

Live well, quilt well.

Great Grandma Book’s Quilt

February 6, 2018 By Lisa Berentsen

Circa 1928. Can you believe how pristine this quilt is? This is the only quilt Grandma ever made. She made it for her only son. Soon, it will be passed from her great-grandson to his son.
